Man accused of internet scam is indicted
ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A U.S. citizen originally from Eastern Europe has been accused of using the internet to steal thousands from unsuspecting people trying to buy a car.
Alexandru Turcan, 29, was indicted on charges of aggravated identity theft, wire fraud and false use of a passport.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Turcan advertised vehicles online and had money wired to a Syracuse bank account, but never delivered the cars. The alleged victims were from Connecticut and Georgia.
If convicted, Turcan faces a maximum of 32 years in prison.
