CORNING, N.Y. -- The Salvation Army in Corning is now facing some challenges on the heels of a dismal Red Kettle campaign last holiday season.

The Salvation Army finished $70,000 short of their $233,000 goal. The gap forced them to lay off one full time employee.

Now, officials are looking at options to bounce back this year.

"First of all, we're looking at our budget to see where we can actually cut without hurting the people in our community, that is very important to us, number one. And then number two, we're going to be doing a little bit more fundraising through this corps itself," said Cpt. John Merchant, Corning Salvation Army.
