Two Elmira Correctional Facility employees arrested

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Two civilian employees at the Elmira Correctional Facility have been arrested, and the prison was put on lockdown.

State police say both employees worked as stores clerks at the facility. They were responsible for receiving and distributing supplies.

Jessica Clearwater, 40, is charged with official misconduct and resigned her position Friday. Jeff Case, 40, is charged with promoting prison contraband after police say he brought prohibited items into the facility. He was suspended without pay earlier this week.

Police say more charges could be filed against both when they finish their investigation.

Meanwhile, the prison has been on lockdown since Tuesday due to an increase in inmate fights, assaults on staff, and the recovery of weapons made by inmates. During the lockdown, inmates will be kept in their cells except for family or legal visits or for required medical attention.

This is the second time in four months that the prison has been put on lock down.
