SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Central New York art museum has launched a text messaging campaign to help connect with the community.

The Everson Museum in downtown Syracuse is hoping to attract more people to its historic works of art.

The museum holds more than 10,000 pieces of art ranging from ceramics, paintings, sculptures, and video.

This campaign allows people to text message the museum to get reminders about events or donate money to help support it.

Everson Museum Executive Director Steven Kern said, "This is another way for us to let people know what's going on. Obviously working through social media, you're reaching constituents that might not be looking at the news or reading the newspaper. Or, taking advantage of traditional ways of communicating and the cell phone is really an important way to touch them."

To receive news and updates about what's happening at the museum you can text the word "Everson" to 277-22. To make a $10 donation to the museum you can text the word "Art" to that same number.
