Cooperstown students vote to change mascot

By: Web Staff

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. -- A school nickname that dates back to the 1920s is being thrown out, and the Cooperstown Central Middle and High School students are getting the chance to elect a new mascot.

The schools voted to change their long-time Redskins mascot in early February after students expressed they felt the nickname was offensive to American Indians.

Some of the new and more popular mascot options include Deerslayers, Hawkeyes and Pathfinders.

The school board president says the board will ultimately choose the new nickname.
