SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- National Grid is preparing for any potential issues with the weather. With strong winds and poor road conditions, utility officials have crews on standby, but they also recommend customers take the proper precautions.

They say you can be both safe and well prepared by keeping flashlights and batteries handy, staying clear of downed power lines, and reporting in any outages.

Most importantly, National Grid officials ask that you stay alert while on the roads.

"You may not experience an outage due to falling tree limbs, due to wires falling, but one of the greatest impacts is motor vehicle accidents and hitting poles which consequently creates an outage in a neighborhood or larger," said Virginia Limmiatis, National Grid CNY Media Relations Representative.

Officials add that no National Grid employees have been mobilized, as of yet, to assist other Northeastern locations.

To reach the National Grid Power Outage Hotline, you can call 1-800-867-5222.
