WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- As it is with doctors and surgeons, sometimes it's harder for areas like the North Country to attract and keep the best and brightest when it comes to science, technology and engineering.

So as part of National Engineering Week, New York Air Brake in Watertown held an open house for numerous schools across the North Country.

Air Brake is one of the world's leaders in braking systems for trains. The company wanted to show how important people who contribute to the field of science can be.

Students got a tour of the plant and also got hands on experience, having some fun doing what the real engineers do.

"We want to make sure that they understand that what we do is a lot of fun. It's not just work. It's actually entertaining. While we have our challenges, the challenges are what really drives us and lets you use your creativity," said Rich Matusiak, New York Air Brake Director of Engineering.

After the different work stations, the students got to eat lunch with the engineers and pick their brains a bit.
