HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A standoff in Herkimer ended peacefully, but not before neighbors were evacuated from their homes for several hours Monday.

Herkimer Police say they went to Pine Avenue around 3:45 p.m. to check on the status of a 21-year-old. He was believed to be inside with several weapons.

The neighborhood was evacuated and secured and around 7:30 p.m., the man surrendered peacefully. He was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.

Police do say they recovered several firearms from the home.
