PULASKI, N.Y. -- Talk of dissolving the village police department brought dozens of people out to the Pulaski village office Tuesday night.

Officials began considering the move last year as a way to save money since the department makes up close to 10 percent of the village's $2 million budget.

The consensus from the public Tuesday seemed to be that people want to keep the department intact, but more needs to be done to support the officers.

"I think that the chief's got to look at a scheduling program and have a better scheduling program. And I think he's working on that. And it's hard when you have part time people because they're not going to be available the hours that you want them to work," said Pulaski resident Francis Taplin.

A vote will be held March 19th.

Pulaski's mayor says he doesn't mind which way the public votes, he just wants to make sure that the village is properly protected.
