SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Some friendly characters helped to brighten the day for a group of kids at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital.

Cookie Monster and Elmo visited the hospital while in Syracuse for the Sesame Street Live production "Elmo Makes Music." A number of pediatric patients got the chance to meet, hug and sing with their TV characters.

Hospital life specialists say it's an exciting opportunity for kids who wouldn't be able to enjoy the show otherwise.

"Many of the kids and families that we have here at the hospital come from so far away and they would never be able to go to the show that they have in the community, so it's really nice that the characters can come right here to the hospital and be able to do something special with the kids," said Child Life Specialist Sue Karl.

Karl says that the hospital works with many traveling shows to bring characters to meet children confined to the hospital.
