Relay for Life at Le Moyne College

ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A group of cancer survivors lead the first lap of the '2nd Annual Relay for Life' at Le Moyne College Friday.

More than 250 people are participating in the relay, which runs from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m.

So far, the 38 teams have raised more than $7,700. The money will go to the American Cancer Society.

Event organizers say the cause hits close to home.

“I relay for my mom, she’s a three time survivor of cancer, and for other relatives who have been affected," said Organizing Committee’s Erica White.

"Both of my grandmothers are breast cancer survivors, along with one of my aunts. And a ton of family friends from back home are cancer survivors and one is just in remission. So, it's really awesome; but, I've also lost a few family members, specifically my aunt to Leukemia a few years ago," said Organizing Committee’s Jessica West.

A number of events like twister and dodge ball are scheduled to keep up the momentum overnight.
