SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A fire claims the life of one woman on Sabine Street Sunday night. According to investigators, it started just before 10 p.m. inside a duplex housing five apartments on the city's South side.

Flames broke out inside the kitchen. Firefighters say it was a small fire, and had it knocked down quickly. They say think the victim may have had problems with the smoke.

Syracuse Fire Chief Mark McLees said, "I guess this is what shows you how deadly it is, how the smoke can be deadly. In this case it was a small amount of fire, just one room and we have a fatality out of that."

The name of the victim has not been released. No word on what sparked the fire.
