SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Two years after losing their son, a Syracuse family has finally won their battle to have all of his student loans forgiven.

Senator Charles Schumer, who helped broker the deal, announced Monday that two companies have agreed to forgive the student loan debt of the late Andrew Prior.

The Northeastern grad was hit by a drunk driver and killed in 2010. His parents, who live in Syracuse, had co-signed on his loans and received threats from the companies that their family car and home would be seized if they didn't pay up.

One of those companies said Monday that they had no knowledge of the situation until the Senator brought it to their attention.
