SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Red Cross says it needs some help after a rash of fires during the last week in Central New York.

Officials from the local chapter say disaster action teams have responded to 11 fires in the last four days, providing assistance to the victims.

So far, the Red Cross has been able to provide all the help needed, but the organization is looking for more volunteers to help more people in need.

"They've just lost everything or they can't get back into their homes. They've got pets. They need to take medications. All those sort of things. The best thing out volunteers do is lend that shoulder to lean on and cry on if needed," said CNY Red Cross Spokesperson Matt Michael.

The organization says it can accept help from part-time volunteers and is flexible with schedules.
