UTICA, N.Y. -- Plans to rehabilitate northern Utica are moving forward. City officials have been talking about revitalizing Harbor Point for decades and now, it’s slowly becoming a reality.
Mayor Robert Palmieri has announced the selection of Elan Planning to be the consultant for the project. They will perform numerous studies to determine the best uses for these 20 acres bordering the Mohawk River.
It's the mayor's hope that a Riverboat casino could be one of the new businesses in Harbor Point.
"We're thinking within a six month period of time, they'll come back with a formal proposal of that site and what the best uses would be and then from that point, it would be obviously outreach to the community," Mayor Palmieri said.
Palmieri says they could potentially break ground within two years.
