BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Planned Parenthood of South Central New York has a new identity. Thursday was the organization's final day as a Planned Parenthood affiliate. It is now called Family Planning of South Central New York.
The Board of Directors decided to make the split back in November, because Planned Parenthood mandated that all affiliates provide abortion services. The local affiliate felt that there were already adequate abortion services available in the community, and wanted to focus efforts on other health needs.
And though the name may have changed, the same staff and services will still be available in all five locations.
"It really doesn't matter what we are called. What matters is that we have been here for the women, our families, our communities for a long time. And Family Planning of South Central New York promises to continue to be here for all of you," said Debra Marcus, Family Planning of South Central NY CEO.
Family Planning of South Central New York has new brochures and signs in all of its sites, as well as a new Facebook page and website.
