SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- If you're looking for a little taste of summer, you don't have to look any farther than the New York State Fairgrounds this weekend. It's the 43rd annual CNY RV and Camping Show. There will be over 600 mobile homes, seven dealers and a number of area campgrounds at the event.

Experts say camping has come a long way in the last few decades from the simplest of pop-ups to full-equipped luxury homes on wheels.

And despite higher gas prices, people are still revving up for old-fashioned road trips. According to 2011 statistics about 8.5 percent of Americans own RVs.

"Even with the price of gas, camping is camping, whether you're camping on the edge of Grand Canyon or you're camping locally in Brennan's Beach, it's still the same campfire you're sitting around at night having fun with your family, so you don't really have to travel far in Central New York to have that camping experience," said Jerry Fitzpatrick, a co-owner of the Great Outdoors Recreation Center in Fulton.

The show runs all weekend: Friday and Saturday it's from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for age 16 and up.

And if you are headed to the show, there's an admission discount coupon on their website.
