CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- The owners of the stray dog "Champ," who was found in terrible condition last week, have been arrested. Investigators in Cortland County arrested Brian Hollenbeck, 36, and his wife, Brandi Hollenbeck, 29, on multiple animal abuse charges.

The dog, nicknamed "Champ" by rescuers, was found extremely thin with a gunshot wound to his leg. A vet said because of the severity of the wound, his leg will need to be amputated.

The SPCA Law Enforcement Department says Champ's owners didn't give him food, water or medical care and didn't try looking for him after intentionally letting him run loose.

Champ is being cared for at Country Acres Animal Services.

If you have any information about Champ or his owners, call investigators at (607) 753-9386.
