BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. -- The Baldwinsville School District is celebrating another year of reading and what better time to come together than on Dr. Seuss’ birthday!
Students gathered for a day of reading and learning at Elden Elementary School for the annual Read Across America initiative Friday. A group of ninth grade student leaders from Durgee Junior High School read to the elementary students.
A guidance counselor at the junior high school says the day is beneficial for both the younger and older students.
"They really truly believe that reading and being a lifelong reader has improved their academic performance. So they know that they're doing good and it feels good to be here reading to the younger kids," said Christopher Marciniak, Durgee Junior High School Guidance Counselor.
The school day was also filled with contests where the students could win prizes for reading.
