SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Saying afterward he grew up watching the Syracuse and Virginia men's lacrosse teams face off each year, Skaneateles native Kevin Rice added his name to the rivalry's legacy on Friday by scoring with one minute left in overtime to give the 18th-ranked Orange a 9-8 victory over the No. 6 Cavaliers at the Carrier Dome.
Five of the teams' last seven meetings and 12 of the 29 all-time matchups have now been decided by one goal.
Syracuse (2-1) next plays St. John's in the Whitman's Sampler Independence Classic outside of Philadelphia next Saturday.
