SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- There's still a week to go before Syracuse's St. Patrick's Parade, but, there was plenty of green in Burnet Park Saturday for the annual Shamrock Run.
More than 3,300 people came out for the eighth annual event that wound its way through the Tipperary Hill neighborhood. Runners were cheered on by spectators with musical acts scattered throughout the route. Many said the run has become a way to extend the Saint Paddy's holiday.
"I want to get in the spirit of it. I want the people to cheer me on when I'm on the road. We've lived up here just a short amount of time; but, it's definitely really good Irish pride and everybody's into it," said Paige Brady, Shamrock Run Participant.
Participants were asked to donate food or money to the Food Bank of Central New York’s, "St. Patrick Hunger Fund." The fund remembers people who died during the Irish famine.
