Munnsville woman dies after crash on Route 5
WESTMORELAND, N.Y. -- A two-car crash in Westmoreland has left a young woman dead.
The Oneida County Sheriff's office says Heather Nazel, 20, of Munnsville lost control of her car on Route 5 around 7:30 a.m. Friday. They say Nazel's car entered the oncoming lane, hitting another vehicle. Both cars wound up on the shoulder, where Nazel hit a utility pole.
Crews needed to use the Jaws of Life to free her. From there, she and the other driver were brought to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where Nazel later died. The other woman was treated for minor injuries and released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
