WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Almost a month after its initial closing date, the Mercy Care Center's closure is put on hold, again.
The nursing home was supposed to shut down and move its remaining 200 residents in early February.
Since then the nursing home has been waiting for permission from the State to go ahead with the official closure.
The Samaritan Medical Center took over running Mercy after financial troubles arose.
When the shutdown does happen, all 240 employees will be laid off and the residents will be relocated to Samaritan Medical Center's Summit Village and at the newly opened Carthage facility, Meadowbrook Terrace.
There is a possibility that the staff could end up at the new Samaritan Medical Center facility as well.
Mercy isn't the only nursing home closure in the area. Jefferson County will also be closing an elder care facility, Whispering Pines.
