UTICA, N.Y. -- Thousands of people lined the streets for the Utica St. Patrick's Parade.
It's an annual tradition that began more than 35 years ago. Utica residents said it's one of the best events the city has all year long. St. Patrick's Day in the Mohawk Valley is much more than just a parade and green beer.
"The Irish have a very proud history here of contributions to the area. A lot of our people came here, hard working people. Men and women made their mark here, made the area what it is, did their part; and, are still doing their part," said Pat Costello, Former Grand Marshal.
After the parade Saturday morning, people went over to Varick Street to continue the St. Patrick's Day festivities.
