ITHACA, N.Y. -- The 2012 democratic challenger to Congressman Tom Reed said he won't be running for congress in 2014.

Tompkins County Legislator Nate Shinagawa said he's been pushed by the national Democratic Party and local leaders to run, but he's decided that he needs to focus his attention at home.

In the 2012 election, Shinagawa received 48 percent of the vote in a surprisingly close race for New York's 23rd Congressional District. It's been named one of only two races in the state that Democrats could win by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
