HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- John Seymour, the owner of John's Barbershop, who was critically injured in the shooting, is currently recovering.

Several people we've spoke with say his shop has been hang out spot for many men in the area.

A friend and long-time customer of Seymour says his friendliness has helped bring the community together.

"John's BarberShop was the hub of the entire village, in my opinion. Everybody would just stop in, everybody who drives by, they toot the horn, when they walk by, they wave to John. John was so much more than just a barber," Stephen Smith said.

Late Wednesday night, Seymour was upgraded from critical to fair condition at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica.

Smith also says Seymour will be celebrating his mother's 100th birthday this weekend.
