NEW YORK — In their final meeting as co-members of the Big East, the Syracuse men's basketball team knocked off top-seeded Georgetown 58-55 in overtime in the conference's tournament semifinals Friday night at Madison Square Garden.
Seniors James Southerland and Brandon Triche scored 13 points each as did Baye Moussa Keita, who also had eight rebounds. Trevor Cooney also provided an unexpected boost with 10 points, all in the first half, helping the Orange avenge a pair of regular-season losses to the archrival Hoyas.
Syracuse will now face No. 2 seed and reigning tournament champion Louisville, which beat No. 6 Notre Dame 69-57 in the other semifinal, in the Big East championship game Saturday night starting at 8:30 on ESPN.
