ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Trenton's town supervisor pleaded not guilty in Oneida County Court on Monday morning, after police say he sexually abused a boy under the age of 11.
Mark Scheidelman was arrested in November and was charged with first degree sexual abuse. According to the indictment, Sheidelman is accused of inappropriately touching the boy. His attorney says the contact was not intentional.
Following the arrest, police said they received more than 20 calls alleging similar crimes, but no additional charges have been filed.
"l feel confident there's absolutely nothing out there except this charge and this charge is based upon, my perception of the evidence at this time, the weakest evidence I've seen in many a case," said George Aney, defense attorney.
The DA's office offered Scheidelman a plea deal during the arraignment.
The case has been adjourned until April 1st. The District Attorney's office would not comment about the case.
