BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Chenango Forks Fire Company Chief has been arrested for alleged misappropriation of property.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office says Lewis Merritt, 57, falsified paperwork in order to obtain a vehicle for his own personal use, which had been donated to the fire company.

Merritt was arrested and charged with offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree and official misconduct. He has been issued appearance tickets.
