HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. – The Herkimer Police Department had the help of other local, state and federal departments during last week's shootings, but Police Chief Joseph Malone says that's not a luxury they always have.

Malone is pushing to prevent any future staffing cuts to the local force. He says the village is proposing to cut two more positions.

Right now, Malone says they only have three to four officers on duty per shift and he believes any additional cuts could have a negative impact on public safety.
