UTICA, N.Y. -- People rallied outside of Representative Richard Hanna's Utica office to take a stand against sequestration as well as federal budget cuts proposed by Representative Paul Ryan.
Residents say their biggest concerns are the cuts being made to programs for youth, education and senior citizens. They hope Representative Hanna will support them, by taking a stand against these budget options.
Protesters believe cuts made at a federal level will impact the state and localities more than people realize.
"We're going to begin to see some very drastic kinds of cuts and cutbacks, diminishing of services, diminishing of personnel, even our first responders are in jeopardy,” said Ted Tottey, Organizing for Action.
A spokesperson for Representative Hanna released a statement saying, "Representative Hanna has been calling for and working toward a replacement of sequestration for more than one year, so he agrees with many in our community who think it’s the wrong way to cut spending."
