JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- It may be spring, but it was a messy morning commute for much of the North Country on Thursday. Heavy snow caused limited visibility and slippery roads for many areas.

The weather was to blame for this pileup on Interstate 81 in the Town of Ellisburg. The southbound lane was closed from Adams to Mannsville for most of the morning while crews cleaned up.

We're told several tractor trailers went off the road and multiple vehicles were damaged. Some people were taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.
