Auburn sex offender arrested for rape
AUBURN, N.Y. -- A registered sex offender is accused of raping a 16-year-old in Auburn after lying about his age and luring her into his hotel room.
Police say William Singletary Jr., 26, used a fake name and claimed he was only 17 years old. They say he also told the victim that her family member was waiting in a local hotel for them, but no one else was there when she arrived.
The victim learned of Singletary's real name and age when she found his license.
Singletary is currently registered as a level two sex offender following a 2010 conviction on third degree rape for having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
He's now facing a new charge of third-degree rape, and was already being held of the Cayuga County Jail on an unrelated charge.
