LATHAM, N.Y. -- The best of the New York's Army National Guard are being put to the test this weekend in the annual Best Warrior Competition.
14 of the most accomplished soldiers and sergeants will compete for the title during a two-day competition in Latham.
They will be tested on military tasks that include weapons assembly and disassembly, military knowledge, and land navigation ability.
One soldier and one non-commissioned officer will be declared the winners.
For those participating, many having served overseas, they're hoping to win for their units first and themselves second.
“I guess the best way to put it is it's nice to, the guys that I served with and spent a lot of time with, to help represent them and make them hopefully look good. I mean, it's the least you can do for them,” said Sergeant Garret Cummings.
The winner will then go on to compete against other National Guard Soldiers from the Northeast before going on to the all-army competition.
