SCHUYLER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Dozens of workers are displaced and a firefighter is injured after a two-alarm fire rips through a Schuyler County building.
It happened at the Shared Services Facility in Watkins Glen early Saturday morning.
Crews were called out to the corner of South Decatur Street and Fairgrounds Lane at about 2 a.m.
The facility houses the county's soil and water conservation and highway departments, along with the village's public works and street departments.
Officials said the fire appears to have started in a plow truck parked inside the facility.
The county administrator said while the damage is significant, they only lost one major piece of equipment.
Still, it will be some time before workers are able to return to the building.
“40 employees will be temporarily displaced and we are making arrangements to relocate offices and staff throughout the day,” said Tim O'Hearn, Schuyler County Administrator.
According to authorities, one firefighter injured his shoulder while battling the flames. He was taken to an area hospital and has since been released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
