Special hearings to review comptroller candidates
The state is moving closer to replacing former comptroller Alan Hevesi. During special hearings in Albany today more than 50 state lawmakers and three former comptrollers will question at least 18 candidates for the position.
The unusually public process was created by Governor Spitzer. The panel will recommend no more than five names to the democrat-controlled Assembly, which will then pick the state's new comptroller.
