Spa City hosts annual storm conference
A lot of us would like to blame the weather folks when bad weather comes our way, or at least their predictions.
That's why future forecasters, teachers and meteorologists get together every year for the three day Northeastern Storm Conference to learn the latest developments in their field.
Professor Dr. Bruce Berryman said, "Always when there's bad weather, people's interest increase. I can't tell you the number of people who are meteorologists because of Twister, and everyone's talking about this winter and how it's just lingering forever."
Lingering is right, but thankfully no twisters yet.
Cegeon Chan is the chairman of the event and senior student meteorologist at Lyndon State College. Chan has seen the conference grow dramatically since he started coming four years ago.
Chan said, "From my freshman year to my senior year, it's been amazing. We had about 220 to 230 my freshman year and now record breaking this year with 325 people coming to this conference."
And with 33 presentations about stormy weather by some of the best in the business, this conference is not for the typical weather person.

Chan said, "There's a lot of math, there's a lot of science behind it. You actually have to sit there and take calculus and take all these very advanced classes, so it's not easy as you may think."
So instead of blaming the weather department when the next Nor'easter hits, you can point the finger to the real culprit: Mother Nature.
