Acting New Jersey governor says 'no' to job

By: Capital News 9 web staff

The acting governor of New Jersey has reportedly decided against running for a term in his own right.

A close adviser said Richard Codey won't seek election to the post. Codey became governor last November when James McGreevey stepped down months after revealing he'd had a gay extra-marital affair.

Codey has scheduled a news conference for Monday. He's expected to endorse Senator Jon Corzine, the only declared Democratic candidate in the race. A spokesman for Codey declined to comment.

Last week, Codey ran into some controversy of his own. He threatened to take a radio host outside following the shock jock's dismissive comments about postpartum depression, an ailment that has afflicted first lady Mary Jo Codey.
