The Toyota Prius, considered the answer to sky-high gas prices with its hybrid engine, is the focus of a federal investigation.
The National Highway Traffic Administration said it has received 33 complaints of engine stalling. The majority of reports said the engine stalls at between 35 and 65 miles per hour.
Toyota had no immediate comment on the federal investigation, which covers about 75,000 cars from the 2004-2005 model years.
And the man who led the Bush Administration's reaction to corporate scandal for the past two years is stepping down at the end of the month.
Securities and Exchange Commission chairman William Donaldson said the time has come to return to the private sector and his family.
