"I said wow!" said Adia Bulawa.

Wow indeed.

Bulawa, 8, is only in the second grade, but she could soon be a part of NASA history. She is one of nine students in the country who has a chance at naming the next Mars Rover.

The name she submitted, Amelia, after Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. And it's actually a name both Bulawa and her sister wanted to use.

"Me and my sister wanted the same name, but she let me use the name Amelia," said Bulawa.

It wasn't just coming up with a name however. Bulawa also had to submit an essay explaining her choice, as did two of her other sisters as well.

"I'm always trying to encourage them to learn anything new, especially about science. So we decided we'd do some research and think of some really appropriate names for the Mars Rover," said Beth Bulawa, Adia's mother.

As for how the names will be decided on, well that's for you to decide. An online vote is currently underway, where the winner will not only get to name the rover, but also get the chance to sign it in person.

"Extremely exciting to think that someone from our home town could name the Mars Rover," said Beth Bulawa.
