Oxley murder trial: week by week
Early October: 160 potential jurors called to the St. Lawrence County Court House. After three days of intense questioning a jury is selected. Both sides give their opening statements. A trial that will last weeks is underway.

Nicole Duve, the St. Lawrence County District Attorney, said, "As you would expect, because the stakes are so high in this particular matter, the defense is doing their job and making sure they question each witness carefully and that's making for a lengthy trial."

Second Week: Jurors view photographs of the murder scene and victim's body, Bernard Trickey. The prosecution presented to the court what they believe to be the murder weapon, a baseball bat.

"The evidence put before the jury is designed to help them understand circumstances under which Mr. Trickey was found and to help them understand how and where police found what they found," Duve said.

A bloody baseball bat was found in Oxley's basement one day after the murder. But defense attorney Richard Manning says someone else had placed that bat in his basement.

Richard Manning, the defense attorney, said, "You take all his clothes and there's no blood from the victim on it, there was blood found on one of his shorts. That was his own blood, Wayne Oxley's blood, no blood on his shirt. This is ridiculous, they are just proving my defense that Wayne Oxley didn't do it"

Third Week: neighbors and friends of the defendant take the stand. Investigators testify stains were found in Oxley's upstairs hallway.

Manning said, "They also took Mr. Oxley's sneakers from them. He explained to them he had wine stains on them. They never tested the sneakers or the socks for wine stains. They tested the insides, outsides, lacings for blood. No blood at all on the sneakers, socks or laces."

Nearing the end of four weeks of the trial, 25 witnesses have taken the stand. When Oxley will learn his fate, we'll have to wait and see.
