BROWNVILLE, N.Y. -- The Brownville community gathered Saturday to support a local family fighting a very rare disease. The Parody family has two children with Niemman-Pick Disease. The medical condition causes an enzyme deficiency that could threaten major organs, and the cure is currently unknown.
Saturday, the Parody's held a fundraiser at the Brownville American Legion with children's games, a bake sale, and an 80s dance later in the evening. All of the money raised will help fund much-needed research for Niemman-Pick's disease. The family says they appreciate how much support they are getting from the community.
Father Justin Parody said, "It means a great deal. It just shows how strong the community is and how awesome the people are around here, willing to give and come down and have a good time."
