AUBURN, N.Y. -- The City of Auburn has voted in favor of setting aside $800,000 for the demolition of the vacant Kalet Building.

The city is not on its own, though. Two local foundations will spend up to $400,000 to help offset the cost of demolishing the building.

Mayor Michael Quill believes it will breathe new life into the area.

"What will be constructed will be one of the venues for our music theater festival. During the fall and winter months, it will be used as classroom and education for Cayuga Community College and during the summer months, it will be used for musical productions," Quill said.

The Musical Theater Festival hopes to have the area ready for performance by the summer of 2013.
