FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Senator Kristen Gillibrand says the FAA has decided to allow unmanned aircraft from the Hancock Air National Guard to fly into Fort Drum's special use airspace at all times, rather than on a case-by-case basis.

The remotely controlled planes have become a major player in the War on Terror.

The 174th just announced it plans to keep some, but not all, of its MQ9 planes on Fort Drum rather than transporting them back and forth.

Gillibrand says up next is a plan that would allow the 174th to fly its planes from Hancock to Fort Drum, saving that transportation hassle.
