LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- There is a new contender in the 2012 race for Congress in what is, for now, the 25th Congressional District.
Reapportionment could change the shape of that district, or even eliminate it altogether prior to next year's election.
But that hasn't discouraged attorney Brianne Murphy from entering the fray. Murphy will have to face a potential battle with the likely party designee, former congressman Dan Maffei, before any race, next November against republican Ann Marie Buerkle.
Murphy said, “I think it's really important that we do not have a career candidate that's running unopposed. I think it's important that we have someone who can actually represent the voters in central New York and someone who's in touch with the voters."
Murphy, a Syracuse attorney, faces a huge disadvantage in terms of campaign funding. She said she will make up for any shortfall in funding through hard work.
