SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse University has again marked its darkest hour. It was 23 years ago that a terrorist bomb brought down Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland where 270 people aboard the plane and on the ground were killed.

Among the lives lost were 35 students from a Syracuse University overseas program, two students from SUNY Oswego, a student from Colgate University and a young married couple from the Syracuse suburb of Clay.

“This legacy has been with Syracuse University every single day since the crash 23 years ago. And the university has embodied that grief in a way that has carried hope into the future,” said Hendricks Chapel Dean Tiffany Steinwert.

As the group gathered at Syracuse's Wall of Remembrance, similar gatherings were held at a national Pan Am 103 memorial at Arlington Cemetery and at a memorial in Lockerbie, Scotland.
