Since 2012 is a leap year, there's an extra day to play travel hooky and some special deals to go along with it. YNN's Valarie D'Elia filed the following report.

First off, there's a couple of Leap Year deals for one of America's top travel destinations. The first is a family favorite, Orlando, from the Rosen Hotels value properties. Stay at least one night February 28 at the special rate of $79.99 plus tax, and get the night of February 29 at no charge. This includes Quality Inn International, Rosen Inn closest to Universal, Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando and Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista.

A selection of Florida Marriott properties are also offering Leap Year perks. Book the "Stay Here, Fly There" promo at participating JW Marriott, Renaissance Hotels and Marriott Resorts in the sunshine state for two nights over February 28 and 29, and get a $100 resort credit along with two free companion airline ticket vouchers when purchasing two tickets. Taxes are extra. Booking deadline is February 27.

Here's a couple of presents for those celebrating leap year birthdays. Those born on February 29, are eligible for a $29 per room, per night deal (based on double occupancy) at Grand Lucayan, Grand Bahama island. Travel must be booked by February 28, and a two-night stay is required.

Here's one for fun on safari in South Africa. To celebrate the leap year, guests staying at and Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge will receive a complimentary leopard-tracking excursion in hopes of spotting a "leap" of leopards, naturally. And Beyond Ngala is situated in the Kruger National Park which is famous for frequent leopard sightings as I can attest. Bush Breakfast is included after tracking.
