SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Construction on a new seven story 180 room hotel will begin this week in downtown Syracuse. The Inns at Armory Square announced that construction on the Marriott Courtyard Residence Inn Hotel will begin Thursday. The hotel will be located on the corner of Franklin Street and Fayette Street.

The company said it closed on construction financing with M&T Bank on Friday. A spokesman said the $30 million project will create about 200 jobs during construction, which is expected to last 14 months.

The Inns at Armory Square is the first new combined Courtyard - Residence Inn Marriott hotel being built in the northeast. It is expected to open in May of next year.
