Two great traditions could have clashed Saturday afternoon. The S.U. men's basketball team was scheduled to play at the same time as the Syracuse St. Patrick's Parade. But as our Erin Clarke tells us, the green and orange played hand and hand in downtown Syracuse.
SYRACUSE, N.Y -- The biggest event in Syracuse and a big game for Syracuse's team fell on the same day.
"There's too much going on today," said Coleman's Authentic Irish Pub Owner, Peter Coleman.
But the luck of the Irish was with the Orange. The team won their third round NCAA Tournament game and smiling Irish celebrating the holiday still got to see it at the Coleman's Irish Hooley.
Before anyone knew that the game was going to be played on St. Patrick's Day several of these small TVs were going to be put up around the room broadcasting the parade. Instead two huge screen were set up to accommodate the Orange faithful.
"They couldn't have done any better with this to really bring out the community both for the parade and for the SU game," said SU Fan, Marc Herron.
And as the parade finished up, the crowd at the Oncenter grew with activities for kids and adults alike. So the day ended in a convergence of Green and Orange as hundreds continuing to celebrate the day that everyone is Irish and also S.U. fans.
