BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan raised a flag in honor of those in the community of Greek heritage. The flag raising comes just a couple of days ahead of Greek Independence Day, March 25th. Those in attendance said they are proud to live in a country that respects and honors their heritage.

"A lot of people complain about the United States. Please don't complain. You’re not going to find a better country to live, a better country to work, to raise a family. This is what I believe in my heart, I love the United States, and I love Greece too," said Binghamton resident, Louis Diamantakos.

Ryan declared Friday to be Greek Independence Day for the city of Binghamton and encouraged residents to reflect on ways that the Greek population has influenced our culture.
